Couple pairs up with Life360

Couple, a US-based couples communications app developer backed by internet company Tencent, was purchased by Life360, a social network for family members, for an undisclosed amount on Friday.

Couple functions as a private messaging app for couples that are in a relationship. The app also includes features such as a shared calendar, lists and photo and video sharing.

The Couple app will continue to operate as a standalone product, but will integrate functionality for its four million users to easily move on to Life360’s network once a couple has children.

Couple launched out of incubator Y Combinator as Pair in 2012, securing $4.2m in seed funding from a consortium including Tencent, Crunchfund, the VC firm backed by media company AOL, SV Angel, A-Grade Investments, Founder Collective, Betaworks and assorted angel investors.

Itamar Novick, chief business officer of Life360, said: “We are excited to have Couple join the Life360 family. We share a mission to better connect people with their loved ones. The team at Couple has built a great product loved by millions of highly engaged users.

“This acquisition represents a strategic alignment of our audiences as couples make up a significant percentage of our user base at Life360. Also, we cannot think of a better day than Valentine’s Day to announce that we will continue to support the Couple app.”

Oleg Kostour, co-founder and chief executive of Couple, said: “For the past four years, we have been relentlessly focused on creating the highest-quality product for couples.

“Life360 is a perfect fit for Couple because of their tremendous expertise in the family space, and their focus on users with high-trust relationships. We are excited to join the talented team at Life360 and are excited about the future for Couple.”
