CoverHound, a US-based provider of an insurance price comparison platform, raised a $33.3m series C round yesterday led by insurance company Ace Group.
American Family Ventures, the venture capital arm of insurance provider American Family Insurance, as well as VC firms RRE Ventures, Blumberg Capital, Core Innovation Capital and Route 66 Ventures returned for the round.
The same investors invested in a $14m series B round in March 2015, alongside VC firm Tugboat Ventures and private investor Thomas Lehrman.
Incorporated in 2010, CoverHound operates a portal for users to find, compare and buy insurance for cars, motorcycles and homes.
The funding will support the hiring of more staff, focusing on product managers, engineers and licensed insurance agents, and the development of new features aimed at small businesses and entrepreneurs.
RRE, Blumberg and Bullpen previously invested $8.2m in series A funding, following an investment of undisclosed size by media company Source Interlink in 2012 and a $750,000 seed round provided by Blumberg in 2011.
