CreativeLive shows class to raise $25m

US-based online education platform CreativeLive has received $25m in a funding round featuring talent agency Creative Artists Agency and REV Venture Partners, the corporate venturing unit formed by data services provider RELX.

REV, formerly known as Reed Elsevier Ventures, and CAA were joined by venture capital firm GSV Acceleration, which led the round, fellow VC firms Greylock Partners and Social Capital, and angel investors Richard Branson and Jared Leto.

CreativeLive has created what it refers to as a creative and entrepreneurial education platform which uses a combination of live lessons and videos made by world-renowned experts to educate students in fields such as design, photography, video, music or entrepreneurship.

More than 10 million students have used the platform since it was launched in 2010, and CreativeLive has raised $58.8m in funding altogether, according to the company.

CreativeLive collected $21.5m of that amount in a series B round in late 2013 that was led by Social Capital, then known as Social+Capital Partnership, and backed by Greylock.

The latter had previously led the company’s $8m series A round earlier in the year, investing together with CAA and fellow talent agency William Morris Endeavor as well as GV, the corporate venturing unit then known as Google Ventures, and VC firm CrunchFund.
