Saison Ventures, the venture capital arm of Japan-headquartered payment services firm Credit Saison, has committed ¥1bn ($9.6m) to an impact investment fund, Nikkei reported yesterday.
The fund will support microfinance initiatives providing financing for microenterprises and low-income borrowers in Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam, before branching out into South Asian markets such as India.
The move comes after Credit Saison launched a $55m vehicle called Saison Capital in October 2019 to invest in India and Southeast Asia. Its eight-strong portfolio includes online lending marketplace KoinWorks and supply chain services provider Ula.
