Funding

US-headquartered blockchain infrastructure provider Blockdaemon has added an undisclosed amount to the $207m series C round it announced in January this year. The extra funding came from Citi Ventures, Salesforce Ventures and Telstra Ventures – on behalf of financial services group Citi, enterprise software producer Salesforce and telecommunications firm Telstra – in addition to Invicta Growth.

US-based enterprise cybersecurity and posture management software producer Obsidian Security has secured $90m in a series C round featuring GV, a corporate venturing subsidiary of internet and technology group Alphabet. Venture capital firms Menlo Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners and IVP co-led the round, which was also backed by Greylock and Wing Venture Capital.

US-headquartered data access software startup DoControl has received $30m in series B funding from investors including cybersecurity software provider CrowdStrike’s Falcon Fund. The round was led by growth equity firm Insight Partners and also backed by StageOne Ventures, Cardumen Capital and RTP Global.

Welcome Tech, the US-based operator of an online portal assisting immigrant families in its home country, has raised $30m from investors including telecoms and internet group SoftBank’s SB Opportunity Fund. The corporate was joined in the round by TTV Capital, Owl Ventures, Mubadala Capital and Next Play Capital.

US-headquartered energy drink brand Shoc Energy has secured $29m in a series B round featuring beverage producer Keurig Dr Pepper and 7-Ventures, the corporate VC arm of convenience store chain 7-Eleven, Front Office Sports has reported. Company co-founder Lance Collins also took part in the round, as did private investors Aaron Judge, Freddie Freeman, Lexi Thompson, Brooks Koepka, Chase Young, Chase Elliot and Michael Strahan.

US-based scheduling software producer Cal.com has received $25m in series A funding from investors including software development technology provider Daily.co. VC firm Seven Seven Six led the round, with Obvious Ventures, OSS Capital and private investors Jack Altman, Tobi Lutke and Anthony Pompliano also participating.

Media group Hearst has participated in a $13.3m series A round for Beam Impact, the US-based operator of a service which links brands to social causes, through subsidiary HearstLab, TechCrunch has reported. VC firm Index Ventures led the round, which also featured Ulu Ventures and angel investors Ruchika Julapalli, Brian Long and Andrew Jones.

Trading firm Jump Trading has led a $10.1m series A round for Ethereum Push Notification Service (EPNS), the creator of a decentralised mobile notification protocol, through subsidiary Jump Crypto. The round included Polygon Studios, the crypto gaming-focused vehicle for blockchain infrastructure developer Polygon, as well as Tiger Global Management, ParaFi Capital, Harmony Foundation and Wave Capital.

US-based specialist medical and dental care staff provider Offor Health has secured $9m in a series A1 round led by Axa Venture Partners, a corporate VC subsidiary of insurance firm Axa, Columbus Business Journal has reported. Formerly known as SmileMD, the company had closed a $6m series A round featuring Axa Venture Partners, SpringRock Ventures, Loud Capital and unnamed angel investors in September 2021.

Equity management software provider Trica has taken part in India-based cross-border investment platform developer Stockal’s $9m series A round, YourStory has reported. Hashed, Peak6, ARC Group Ventures, 7Square, AZ Ventures, Czar Capital and Riso Capital also contributed to the round, alongside unnamed existing investors.

Digital asset manager Coinbase provided an undisclosed amount of bridge financing for Japan-headquartered digital asset manager Hyperithm yesterday through strategic investment subsidiary Coinbase Ventures. The unit had previously contributed to Hyperithm’s $11m series B round in August 2021.

US-headquartered financial data analytics provider Inca Digital has closed a series A round indicated by a February 2022 securities filing to be at least $5.5m in size, with the cash coming from investors including asset management services provider Menai Financial Group and market maker Consolidated Trading. The round was co-led by GTS Venture Capital and Galaxy Digital and it also featured Wedbush Capital, Aquamarine Holdings and angel investor Grant Gittlin.

US-based food scrap recycling service Compost Crew completed a $5.5m series A round yesterday that included property manager Tower Companies. The round was led by Lattice Impact Capital and also featured K Street Capital and undisclosed local company executives and Compost Crew customers.

US-headquartered peer-to-peer cryptocurrency tool developer Impervious Technologies has secured an undisclosed amount of seed financing from investors including cryptofinance provider XBTO’s Humla Ventures Fund and cryptocurrency-focused financial services provider Nydig. They were joined by digital asset manager CoinShares, Trammell Venture Partners, Fundamental Labs, Strategic Cyber Ventures, Ten-31, Jungle Boys Capital, Bitcoiner Ventures, Lightning Ventures and Lightning Labs.

Online industrial product marketplace Moglix has invested approximately $5m in India-based electric vehicle developer Euler Motors at a valuation of about $70m, Entrackr reported on Sunday, citing a regulatory filing. Euler had secured $10m from QRG Holdings, ADB Ventures, Inventus Capital and Blume Ventures in November 2021 through a series B round it intended to close at $60m.

Role-playing game developer Elumia has raised an undisclosed amount from investors including quantitative trading firm Alameda Research, blockchain game developer Animoca Brands and Crypto.com Capital, the VC arm of cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com. They were joined by gaming guilds GuildFi, YGG SEA, Ancient 8, Good Games Guild, PathDAO and Unix Gaming as well as Cryptology Asset Group, Spartan Group, Momentum 6, Kyros Ventures, Infinity Ventures Crypto, Spark Digital, Forward Analytics, Master Ventures, Maven Capital, Metavest Capital and Solar Eco Fund.

Egypt-based cloud kitchen operator The Food Lab received $4.5m in pre-seed financing from investors including conglomerate Al Faisaliah Group today. The round was co-led by VC firms 4DX Ventures, Nuwa Capital and Shorooq Partners and was also backed by Samurai Incubate and undisclosed angel investors.

Cryptocurrency payment technology developer Loop has emerged from stealth with $4m in seed funding from investors including digital currency exchange CoinList. VC firm Andreessen Horowitz led the round, which also featured A_capital, Alchemy Ventures and individuals including Lauren Stephanian, Paul Veradittakit, Imran Khan and Alex Svanevik.

Artificial intelligence technology producer iFlytek, has invested an undisclosed amount in China-based artificial intelligence product developer SoundCloud Intelligence, Baidu News has reported. The capital was provided by subsidiary Anhui Xunfei Yunchuang Technology.

Orkla Ventures, the corporate VC arm of diversified conglomerate Orkla, has led a $2m seed round for Cerve, the Sweden-based developer of a software platform which automates food wholesaling, TechCrunch has reported. MP Pensjon and nFront Ventures also participated.

Move3 has supplied an undisclosed amount of funding for GoX Crossborder, a Portugal-based provider of European internationalisation services for online startups located in Brazil, Startupi has reported. It was funded through an allocation of roughly $11m set aside by the corporate for strategic investments and merger and acquisition deals in 2022.

Etap, the Nigeria-based operator of an online automotive insurance platform, has raised $1.5m in a pre-seed round led by Mobility 54, a VC vehicle formed by vehicle distributor CFAO Group and Toyota Tsusho, the trading subsidiary of carmaker Toyota, TechCrunch reported today. The round included Tangerine Insurance, the insurance firm which is also Etap’s underwriter, as well as mining company Newmont, Graph Ventures and unnamed angel investors.

Vietnam-based online real estate portal Reti has received an undisclosed amount of seed capital from investors including internet company CyberAgent’s corporate VC unit, CyberAgent Capital, Tech in Asia has reported. VIC Partners also took part in the round.

Truckhall, the operator of online logistics services platform SuperProcure, has secured Rs 75m ($980,000) in financing from e-commerce services provider IndiaMart, YourStory reported yesterday. The investment was made through the purchase of compulsorily convertible debentures by IndiaMart subsidiary Tradezeal Online.

 

M&A

Payment technology producer Unzer has acquired portfolio company Tillhub, a Germany-based provider of point-of-sale technology, for an undisclosed sum. Unzer provided an undisclosed amount of funding for the company in mid-2020, an investment at the time attributed to its majority owner, private equity firm KKR. Tillhub had raised a total of about $7m from investors including payment processor Elavon and media company Müller Medien as of 2018.

Ahead, a US-based provider of online mental health services that counts healthcare software producer Truepill as its largest investor, is closing down. The corporate had led a $9m round for Ahead in mid-2020.

 

Funds

Skynet EGLD Capital, a Switzerland-based fund formed by the founders of crypto investment firm Skynet Trading, has secured over $40m in capital from investors including Elrond Foundation, which oversees the Elrond blockchain. Morningstar Ventures, Spark Digital Capital, Woodstock Fund and Verko are also among the fund’s limited partners.

Packaged food producer General Mills’ strategic investment subsidiary, 301, has agreed to provide $15m for two US-based venture capital funds. The recipients of the capital are Fearless Fund and Supply Change Capital, both of which focus on investments in companies led by women from underrepresented backgrounds.
