Funding
US-based asthma therapy developer Areteia Therapeutics has raised $350m from investors including pharmaceutical firm Sanofi, internet and technology group Alphabet’s GV subsidiary and Access Biotechnology, part of conglomerate Access Industries. The round was led by private equity firm Bain Capital through its Bain Capital Life Sciences fund, while Arch Venture Partners, Saturn Partners, Maverick Capital and private equity firm Population Health Partners also took part. Areteia was formed by Population Health Partners and drug developer Knopp Biosciences.
GV has also taken part in a $116m round for cloud-native database software developer SingleStore that included enterprise technology producer Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Dell Technologies Capital and IBM Ventures, which invested on behalf of computing technology producers Dell and IBM respectively. Investment bank Goldman Sachs’ Asset Management subsidiary led the round, which also featured Insight Partners and unnamed others.
M&A
Video game publisher Nordisk Games has agreed to buy portfolio company Supermassive Games, the UK-based video game developer known for creating horror title Until Dawn, for an undisclosed amount. Nordisk Games, a subsidiary of entertainment producer Nordisk Film, had paid an undisclosed sum for a 30.7% stake in Supermassive in March 2021.
Exadel, a custom software engineering and consulting services provider, has paid an undisclosed amount to buy Motion Software, the Bulgaria-headquartered operator of an online platform which connects remote tech talent with businesses, enabling digital education provider SoftUni to exit. SoftUni had invested an undisclosed sum in Motion back in 2019.
Fund
Equity management software provider Carta is among the limited partners in a $10m debut fund closed by US-based venture capital firm Conscience VC, TechCrunch reported yesterday. The firm invests in science-driven consumer companies and the fund’s other LPs include Screendoor Partners, Foundation Capital and undisclosed institutions and tech company founders.
