Pharmaceutical firm Asahi Kasei Pharma has joined Nissay Capital, NCB Venture Capital and SMBC Venture Capital, respective subsidiaries of insurer Nippon Life and financial services firms Nishi-Nippon City Bank and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, in a ¥3.86bn ($30.3m) series B round for Luca Science, the Japan-based developer of a mitochondria biopharmaceutical agent. DCI Partners, 4Bio Capital and Fast Track Initiative co-led the round, which included Remiges Ventures, Nippon Venture Capital and QB Capital.

Media

Indonesia-based, millennial and generation Z-focused media platform IDN Media has raised $23m in a series D round co-led by conglomerate Mayapada and investment firm KMIF, Daily Social has reported. Marketing firm Dentsu Group and financial services firm Bank OCBC NISP’s OCBC NISP Ventura unit also took part, as did East Ventures and V Media Ventures. A company spokesperson told Tech in Asia the fundraising effort is ongoing and the total amount for the round is set to exceed the current figure.

Transport

Kolors, the Mexico-based operator of a data analytics-equipped bus network, has secured $26m in financing, including a $20m series A round led by venture capital firm UP.Partners and backed by Toyota Ventures, an investment vehicle for carmaker Toyota, in addition to Maniv Mobility, K5 Global, Mazapil, Tuesday Capital, Expa, Lowercase, Moving Capital, MVG, Brainstorm Ventures, Bling Capital and Amplifica.

Mobility services provider MPM Group has agreed to invest $25m in Singapore-headquartered online used vehicle marketplace Carro, DealStreetAsia reported today. The capital will be supplied through a deal in which Carro will acquire a 50% stake in MPM car rental subsidiary MPM Rent for S$75m ($54.5m).
