Issam Dairanieh, is set to leave corporate venturing unit BP Ventures after more than four years as managing director, he revealed this week.
Dairanieh has led BP Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of petroleum company BP, since 2011, after spending almost two years as a venture director at the unit’s predecessor, BP Alternative Energy, where he set up a US branch.
Prior to that role, Dairanieh had been a technology principal at BP Alternative Energy. He joined BP in 1998 and his roles at the firm have included commercial development manager and renewable and alternative energy program manager.
Dairanieh, who was ranked 21st on GCV’s 2014 Powerlist, has not disclosed precise details regarding his plans.
However, he has said he has been given the chance to lead an organisation that aims to help reduce global warming by funding research for technology that can cut carbon emissions. He is also helping to form a cross-border infrastructure fund that will make sustainability-based investments.
