Deal Roundup: Savvy spends $4.9bn on mobile game studio Scopely

Funds

Phosphate provider OCP Group joined Mohammed VI Polytechnic University to provide $200m of capital for Bidra Innovation Ventures, a US-based venture capital firm focused on energy, water, mining and agriculture technology. The same investors had supplied $50m for a Bidra agtech fund a year ago.

M&A

Savvy Games, a gaming and esports group backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, agreed to acquire US-based mobile game developer Scopely for $4.9bn, a 50% premium on the valuation of its last round, a $340m series E in 2020 that took its total funding to $900m. Exiting investors include media group Advance and video game publisher Take-Two Interactive.

Funding

Germany-based smart thermostat producer Tado° increased its latest funding round to €55m ($60m) with additional funding from building digitisation technology provider Noventic and S2G Ventures, which led the second tranche, as well as Trill Impact Ventures, Bayern Kapital, Kiko Ventures, Swisscanto and Target Partners. All but S2G were part of the round’s $46.9m first close in January this year.
