Deepscale tips towards Tesla

Electric car and solar technology producer Tesla has acquired Deepscale, a US-based autonomous driving technology developer backed by industrial technology producer Siemens, for an undisclosed sum, CNBC has reported.

Founded in 2015, Deepscale is developing software designed to integrate with sensors and existing autonomous driving software in order to enhance its computer vision technology capabilities, utilising the low-wattage processors already standard in most vehicles.

The technology could eventually be used to help power autonomous taxi services that would presumably utilise Tesla vehicles.

Siemens’ Next47 unit co-led a $15m series A round for Deepscale in April 2018 with Point72 Asset Management that also featured Autotech Ventures and Trucks Venture Capital.

Autotech had already taken part in the company’s $3m seed round in early 2017, together with Bessemer Venture Partners, ME Cloud Ventures, Greylock Partners, Ali Partovi, Andy Bechtolsheim and Lip-Bu Tan.
