Delivery Hero eats up €40m

The corporate venturing unit of Germany-based retail company Tengelmann and Russia-based technology company Ru-Net have helped online takeaway service Delivery Hero raise €40m ($50.2m), in series D funding led by Kite Ventures.

The round brings in venture debt provider Kreos Capital and doubles Delivery Hero’s total funding to €80m. Delivery Hero’s previous investors as well as Tengelmann Ventures, Ru-Net and Kite Ventures, also include  venture firms Holtzbrinck Ventures, and Point Nine Capital, with incubator Team Europe providing the initial seed capital.

Delivery Hero was launched in 2010 and has since the acquired a network of 22,000 restaurants in 12 countries spanning 4 continents.

Since its launch Delivery Hero has pursued rapid expansion acquiring the Scandinavian OnlinePizza Norden Group and Finland’s Pizza-online.fi earlier this year. The company enjoys market leadership in Sweden, Finland, Poland and Austria and was recently launched in South Korea as YoGiYo.

With this latest infusion of cash Deliver Hero aims to further expand its territorial reach. Chief executive Fabian Siegel explained: “This current round provides us sufficient capital to fuel our aggressive international growth plans”.

Lukasz Gadowski, of Team Europe, said: “Kite Ventures and the other investors remain focused on the long-term strategy. But they also know that Delivery Hero is knocking on the door of global domination, so they want to keep the pace.”

According to company released data Delivery Hero has processed more than 32 million orders since its inception and has an annual market revenue exceeding €250m.
