Japan-headquartered marketing group Dentsu and US-based venture capital firm Scrum Ventures have partnered on a sports technology accelerator dubbed Sports Tech Tokyo.
The accelerator will take place in both partners’ home countries and will consist of a one-year program that will initially choose 150 companies which will be able to access specialist events.
Between 10 and 20 of those participants will be selected for a three-month virtual mentorship scheme that will culminate in a demo day. They will also be able to use Scrum’s growth initiative, Scrum Studios, to work on and test their products.
Fumihiko Nakajima, senior director of business development for Dentsu, said: “Sports Tech Tokyo is a unique accelerator program made possible by the collaboration of Dentsu, where we have supported sports for many years, and Scrum Ventures, a firm experienced working with startups in the US.
“Through sports technology, this program will bring together people, organisations, ideas and technologies to create exciting opportunities. I look forward to the continued growth and revitalisation of the sports industry.”
