Dharmesh Thakker is stepping down from his position as managing director at Intel Capital, the corporate venturing arm of chip maker Intel, to join venture capital firm Battery Ventures as a general partner.
Thakker joined Intel Capital in 2011 as an investment director and most recently managed its cloud and big data investments. He is set to begin work at Battery on February 1, and will lead its investments in sectors such as cloud infrastructure, big data and security.
During his time at Intel Capital, Thakker backed startups including database company MongoDB, which raised an $80m series G round earlier this month, cloud software services provider Mirantis, which secured a $100m series B round in October 2014, and cloud automation company DynamicOps, which was acquired by cloud infrastructure company VMWare for an undisclosed amount in 2012.
Battery’s recent investments include home improvement marketplace Porch’s $65m series B round, as well as recruitment platform Glassdoor’s $70m series F, both closed earlier this month.
Thakker said: “I am extremely excited to be joining Battery, a firm that I have long admired and respected for spotting key technology trends early.
“With its decades of experience, global reach and stage-agnostic investing approach, Battery should provide an excellent platform to capitalise on the massive enterprise IT opportunity ahead of us right now.”
