Rich Miner, general partner at diversified conglomerate Alphabet’s corporate venturing subsidiary, GV (formerly Google Ventures), joined the board of directors of US-based communications platform Dialpad today.
Miner is a co-founder of Android who first joined internet company Google when it acquired the mobile operating system in 2005. He initially led the further development of Android at Google before joining GV, where he currently heads the east coast investment team.
Founded in 2011, Dialpad operates a cloud-based telephony service aimed at businesses. The company was known as Switch Communications until yesterday.
Dialpad is already backed by GV, which took part in a $35m series C round in May 2015 alongside telecommunications firm Softbank. The round was led by venture capital firm Amasia and also featured VC firms Felicis Ventures, Work-Bench Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz.
GV previously invested $5m in series A capital in 2011 before returning in 2012 for a $15m series B round led by Andreessen Horowitz. Dialpad has not revealed whether the appointment of Miner means it is in the process of securing a fourth funding round from GV or others.
Craig Walker, chief executive of Dialpad, said: “The addition of Rich to our board will provide invaluable insight and guidance to our organisation.”
