Disney adds magic to Gendai Games round

Gendai Games, a US-based software company to allow people to create their own games for mobile devices, has raised an undisclosed amount for its series A round from a venture consortium including media group Disney’s corporate venturing division.

Disney’s Steamboat Ventures participated in the series A, which was led by venture capital firm DFJ Mercury, and included VCs FF Asset Management, DFJ Frontier and angel investors Paul Bricault, Paige Craig, Tom McInerney, Josh Resnick and Mark Suster.

Beau Laskey, managing director of Steamboat Ventures, said: "Brands are continually looking to extend their customer experience into games and other forms of interactive media. Gendai provides a compelling option for creative professionals and developers to accelerate and simplify the development of sophisticated casual games, which helps to reduce total costs and turn-around time for development studios."
