Disney finds Passenger for latest deal

Think Passenger, a US-based developer of social networks for companies, has raised $7.5m in its fourth round that includes media group Disney’s corporate venturing fund.

The investors were Disney’s Steamboat Ventures, venture capital firms Shelter Capital Partners and StarVest Partners and angel investor Bahram Nour-Omid.

Nour-Omid, who is also a partner at Shelter and previously an executive at Scopus Technology and StudioXchange, has been promoted to Passenger’s chief executive with incumbent Steve Howe becoming chairman.

Passenger’s social technology products are used by the private online communities for car maker Mercedes, software company Microsoft, broadcaster Fox and retailer JC Penney.

Dan Beldy, managing director at Steamboat Ventures, said: "

"Passengers’ expertise in community management has enabled the company to deliver measurable return-on-investment for its clients.  The additional investment will enable Passenger to accelerate growth and meet the needs of companies seeking to better engage both internal and external constituents."

Previously, Passenger raised about $8m in each of its series B and C rounds in 2007 and 2008, respectively, and $4m in its series A round, according to news provider VentureBeat.
