US-based telemedicine provider Doctor On Demand raised a $50m series B round yesterday backed by semiconductor technology producer Qualcomm’s corporate venturing division Qualcomm Ventures.
The round was led by Tenaya Capital and also featured Dignify Health, a non-profit organisation that operates hospitals and care facilities, Venrock, Shasta Ventures, and a range of other other unnamed venture capital firms.
Angel investors Richard Branson, founder of conglomerate Virgin, and Anne Wojcicki, founder of genomics company 23andMe, also contributed.
Doctor On Demand offers video calls with GPs, paediatricians, psychologists and lactation consultants. The pay-as-you-go service costs $40 for a 25 minute consultation.
In August 2014, the company raised a $21m series A round led by Venrock, and including Shasta as well as Branson.
In 2013, internet company Google’s corporate venturing division Google Ventures, Venrock, Shasta, Lerer, Andreessen Horowitz and several angel investors provided a $3m seed round.
