Dreamworks takes Fingerprint for corporate venturing portfolio

Fingerprint, a US-based mobile technology company that powers games and curates edutainment for children, has raised $10.9m in a series B round led by film studio Dreamworks Animation.

Dreamworks was joined by existing investors including media company Corus Entertainment and Reed Elsevier Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of publisher Reed Elsevier.

Founded in 2010, Fingerprint raised a $1.4m seed round including Reed Elsevier, games developer THQ, K2MediaLabs and Suffolk Holdings in 2011, followed by a $7.8m series A in September 2012 from Corus.

The funding will enable Fingerprint to provide a steady stream of new and quality games, apps, videos and e-books for partner networks around the world.

Fingerprint plans to launch seven new networks in the US, Canada, Southeast Asia, Australia and Europe by the end of this year, at which point it will have introduced 600 new apps, 50 e-books and numerous video services for kids.

Fingerprint’s investors tend to be companies it wants to partner with and Corus, Reed Elsevier and Dreamworks would be able to distribute content and collaborate with Fingerprint on new content.

Nancy MacIntyre, Fingerprint’s CEO, said: “Mobile has changed children’s viewing and playing habits, and as a result, the growth in the mobile kids’ entertainment and edutainment industry is taking off.”
