Drop heats up with $8m series A

Drop, a US-based smart kitchen appliance software developer backed by supply chain services provider PCH International, has completed an $8m series A round led by venture capital firm Alsop Louie Partners.

VC firm Frontline Ventures and Michelin-starred chef Ross Lewis also participated in the round. Frontline and Innovation Works co-led a $2m round for the company in 2014 that included PCH, VegasTechFund and WI Harper Group.

Founded in Ireland in 2012, Drop is developing an operating system that will power smart appliances being produced by companies including engineering and electronics group Robert Bosch and industrial technology conglomerate General Electric, both of which are strategic partners.

The company already offers network-connected baking scales that accurately weigh ingredients according to interactive recipes provided by its mobile app.

Ben Harris, co-founder and chief executive of Drop, said: “This investment will allow us to accelerate our trajectory towards becoming the de facto platform for the smart kitchen that empowers anyone to make delicious food at home.”
