Duo Security captures $12m series B

US-based Duo Security, a cloud-based security company has secured $12m in a series B round featuring the corporate venturing division of internet company Google.

Venture Capital firm Benchmark led the round, alongside Radar Partners.

Duo Security is a two-factor authentication security platform used by other 4,000 organisations. The funding will enable the company to expand its portfolio and add additional security features to its existing service.

The company raised $5m in funding in 2012 from Google Ventures, True Ventures and Resonant Venture Partners. Duo raised $1m in series A funding in 2010.

We have always had ambitions beyond two-factor authentication to build a unified security platform that empowers the mid-market to appropriately protect themtselves,” said Jon Oberheide, co-founder of Duo Security. “We’re on a mission to democratize effective security technologies for everyone, not just the Fortune 500. With this additional financing, we can continue to scale our sales, marketing, and product development to build a strong security solution to protect organizations worldwide.”

Following the round Matt Cohler, general partner at Benchmark will join Duo Security’s board of directors.
