US-based authentication-as-a-service provider Duo Security raised $5m in series B financing on Tuesday from corporate venturing unit Google Ventures, and venture capital firms True Ventures and Resonant Venture Partners.
True and Resonant come into the round as existing investors, having previously funded Duo’s $1m series A round in August 2010.
Duo provides a service that enables web and network administrators to add protection to their accounts via secondary authentication. The investment will be used to expand its team with an eye toward research and development.
Karim Faris, partner at Google Ventures, said: "Proper identity assurance and mobile security are critical for the growth of meaningful online services. Duo Security is committed to democratising strong authentication and bringing this previously ‘enterprise-only’ level of security to every internet user."
