Hiroki ‘Rocky’ Eda (pictured) has joined Japan-based trading group Marubeni as managing director of its corporate venturing unit.
Before joining Marubeni Ventures, Eda was in charge of overseas investment at DG Incubation, a corporate venture capital subsidiary of internet company Digital Garage.
Eda spent nearly a decade at the unit and his portfolio companies included Twitter, Path, Beautylish, Betaworks, Blockstream and Context Logic, the mobile commerce platform also known as Wish.
Eda joined Marubeni after the company set up its $50m corporate VC unit in June this year. It has offices in Estonia, Israel and the US as well as Japan and has just led a $26m round for UK-headquartered solar technology provider Azuri Technologies.
