Eneco brings in Baneke to head corporate venturing

Eneco Innovation & Ventures, Netherlands-based energy utility Eneco’s corporate venturing arm, has promoted investment director Leonie Baneke to head of the unit.

Baneke joined Eneco as an M&A adviser in 2014 prior to becoming an investment director at Eneco Innovation & Ventures in January 2016, six months after its launch. The vehicle focuses on investments in smart home, intelligent building and domestic renewable energy technology developers.

During her time at the unit, Baneke has helped it invest in digital heating installation service provider Thermondo, electric mobility management platform GreenFlux and virtual power plant operator Next Kraftwerke.

Since Baneke became head of venturing, Eneco has provided an undisclosed amount of equity funding for sustainability technology developer Energie in Huis. She said: “This investment in Energie in Huis is in line with our strategy of investing in new, innovative companies that help us to accelerate the energy transition.”
