Media company Nikkei invested $20m in US-based workplace data technology developer Evernote yesterday as part of a partnership centred on Evernote’s newly introduced Context feature.
Context is a feature for Evernote that displays information relevant to whatever the user is working on at the time. Nikkei will provide editorial content to Context through the agreement from the start of 2015.
Tsuneo Kita, Nikkei’s chief executive, said: “We believe Nikkei and Evernote share similar missions – to enable knowledge workers to enhance their productivity.
“This new partnership is going to be much more than just providing business news through Evernote. We are excited to join forces, and together develop completely new services that will lead to fundamental changes in the way people work.”
Evernote had previously raised about $250m from Docomo Capital, the corporate venturing arm of telecommunications firm NTT Docomo, M8 Capital, Valiant Capital Partners, T Rowe Price, Meritech Capital, CBC Capital, Sequoia Capital, Harbor Pacific Capital, Morgenthaler Ventures and Allen & Company.
