Everything.me, the Israel-based developer of an Android app launcher backed by a range of corporates, has shut down, Tech.eu reported on Sunday.
The news is unexpected, as the company, which counted internet browser developer Mozilla and telecoms companes Telefónca and Singapore Telecommunications among its investors, was hiring new engineers and software developers as recently as last month.
Founded in 2010, Everything.me provided software for Android smartphones that included features such as smart folders, which automatically organise apps by category, and a display of information that was time-dependent, for instance displaying news in the morning and train schedules in the evening.
The company’s last funding was a $25m series C round in 2012 led by Telefónica that included SingTel Innov8, the corporate venturing unit of Singapore Telecommunications, Mozilla, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, DFJ Tamir Fishman, BRM Group and Horizons Ventures.
Horizons Ventures had previously led a $3.5m series B round in 2012, which followed $7.5m in 2011 from Draper Fisher Jurvetson, DFJ Tamir Fishman and BRM Group.
Everything.me reportedly still has capital left over from those rounds, but has been unable to identify a suitable business model despite claiming 15 million installs of its software. The company has laid off its 36-strong team.
