Evok Innovations pumps funding into five startups

Evok Innovations, a Canada-based investment partnership formed by oil and gas companies Cenovus Energy and Suncor Energy and angel group BC Cleantech CEO Alliance, has announced its first five portfolio companies.

The fund has invested an undisclosed sum in each company, all of which are headquartered in Canada. DarkVision Technologies, a developer of ultrasound-based imaging technology for oil and gas operators, closed a $5m series A round backed by Evok and BDC Capital last month.

Mosaic Materials is developing metal-organic frameworks to remove impurities like CO2 from gas mixtures in order to make fossil fuels cheaper and more efficient.

Metabolik Technologies is working on a bioremediation platform that will cut the concentration of contaminants in oil sands tailings ponds.

Rotoliptic Technologies Corporation has created pump technology capable of moving high viscosity fluids with a high solids content. Institute for Breakthrough Energy Technology (IBET) will discover and help commercialise new energy technologies.
