Japan-based mobile operator NTT Docomo has helped US-based wireless memory card company Eye-Fi raise $20m.
The series D round on Wednesday was joined by existing investors in Eye-Fi including venture firms Shasta Ventures, Opus Capital and TransLink Capital.
NTT Docomo will in April also become the first partner to launch Eye-Fi card activation via mobile phones, with no computer required to share photos.
Koichi Takahara, managing director of the "ubiquitous services department" of NTT Docomo, said: "A customer-first philosophy is at the core of both our business strategies, which makes partnering with Eye-Fi so advantageous. Eye-Fi changes how customers interact with their photos, mobile devices and the people they want to share with. So, if someone wants to give a digital photo frame to each member of their family, they can now instantly upload new memories to each frame straight from their mobile phone or camera."
In 2008, Eye-Fi’s series B round raised $11m, with backing from LMS Capital, a UK-listed fund pursuing a realisation strategy, and other aforementioned investors. In 2007,Eye-Fi’s series A raised $5.5m. It is unclear what the series C round raised.
