Eye on Air, the Netherlands-based developer of an advanced explosive sensor to be used at airports, has raised €1.8m ($1.9m) from the corporate-backed Mainport Innovation Fund and unnamed private investors.
Eye on Air is working on systems that can quickly and efficiently detect trace samples of explosive residue on passengers and in luggage.
Ewout Maaskant, Eye on Air’s chief executive, said: “The investment enables us to expand our team with mechanical, electrical and software engineers.
“We will also look at other applications for our highly sensitive sensor technology, such as early detection of leaks of volatile substances in pipes, or detection of contaminants in the ambient air.”
Mainport is funded by airport Schiphol, aviation company KLM, rail operator NS, seaport Port of Amsterdam, university TU Delft and investment manager NBI Investors.
