Fetch Robotics catches $20m series A

Fetch Robotics, a US-based provider of robotics for the logistics sector, has received $20m for a series A round led by telecoms company SoftBank’s US subsidiary SB Group.

O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of publisher O’Reilly, and Shasta Ventures also contributed.

Fetch Robotics’ technology enables autonomous warehousing, including a charging station that robots automatically use when their battery is low so that operations can run continuously.

The company will use the fresh funding to hire more staff for its sales and marketing division and to meet demands for its technology from clients.

Kabir Misra, managing partner at SoftBank’s corporate venturing arm SoftBank Capital, will join Fetch Robotics’ board of directors.

In February 2015, O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures and Shasta Ventures provided $3m in seed funding.

Melonee Wise, chief executive of Fetch Robotics, said: “I am delighted to have SoftBank join the team and help us change the world of logistics and material handling.

“SoftBank’s expertise and worldwide resources with respect to technology, production, distribution and more will be a big help to our growing organisation.”
