Germany-based mobile games startup Flaregames has raised $12.2m in a series B round led by venture capital firm Accel Partners that also featured T-Venture, the venture capital arm of telecommunications firm Deutsche Telekom.
Set up in 2011 by Klaas Kersting, founder of online game publisher, Gameforge, Flaregames will use the money to increase the size of its team and publicise the company’s upcoming free-play games.
Kersting, Flaregames’ CEO, said: “This round of funding enables us to invest in bigger projects, both external and internal. We have half a dozen games in development at our studios in Karlsruhe and Frankfurt and are already working with a number of major US developers on undisclosed projects.
Harry Nelis, partner at Accel Partners and member of Flaregames’s board of advisors, added: “Flaregames has already transformed its organisation from a self-publishing developer to a developing publisher and has demonstrated its ability to make games that are both profitable and loved by gamers.”
Flaregames has raised nearly $23m in total from Accel, T-Venture, and an additional undisclosed investor.
