John M Mascarenas, formerly a senior investment director at Intel Capital, has joined the US division of Japan-based electronics company Toshiba as senior director of strategic investments.
Mascarenas joined Intel in 1980 and moved to its corporate venturing unit, Intel Capital, in 1998. He was subsequently involved in more than 70 private equity and M&A transactions before leaving to join flash memory storage company SanDisk as a director and consultant for strategic investments November 2013.
Toshiba has made several US-based strategic investments over the past few years, and its portfolio companies include LED lighting developer Bridgelux and cyber security provider CyberFlow. Its most notable investment was in Violin Memory, the data storage company that raised $162m in an initial public offering in October 2013.
