Fotor captures $7.6m in series B round

Fotor, a China-based photo editing app developer backed by consumer electronics manufacturer Lenovo, has received $7.6m in series B funding from investment bank GF Securities, it announced.

Founded in 2009, Fotor has created an app that facilitates professional-level photographic editing and graphic design without requiring a steep learning curve.

The company claims it has upwards of 250 million users across more than 180 countries, and recently converted the app from a Flash-based platform to HTML5.

Fotor will use the cash, which GF supplied last month, to improve user experience across all its platforms, as well as to expand its team and strengthen its presence internationally. Lenovo provided $3m of series A capital for Fotor in 2012.

Tony Duan, Fotor’s CEO, said: “Our goal is to provide the best photo editing and graphic design applications for photographers around the world regardless of their experience or level of skill. Fotor continues to innovate and push the boundaries of what is possible in photo editing and design.”
