US-based internet video service Frequency yesterday closed an $11m series B round that included media and telecoms firm Liberty Global and You On Demand (YOD), a pay-per-view and video-on-demand service provider.
Liberty Global participated through its corporate venturing subsidiary Liberty Global Ventures. Family office Oakmont Corporation also took part in the round.
Frequency provides video services to more than 100 million global subscribers for TV, mobile and online content. The company also provides distribution services for more than 120 multi-channel content providers.
The funding will be used to support Frequency’s growth overseas and the continued development of its smart video distribution platform.
Bruno Wu, chairman of YOD, said: “Frequency’s infrastructure and distribution platform is proven, turnkey and world-class.
“Together, we will be able to dramatically accelerate our multi-channel plans across the world, moving from an existing user base of several million to an addressable user base of several hundred million globally by the end of 2016.”
Alongside the investment, Inge Smidts, chief marketing officer at Liberty Global, will join Frequency’s board of directors.
Frequency previously obtained $3m in series A funding in 2011 from unnamed investors.
