Funzio, a San Francisco-based developer of action games for Facebook and mobile devices, has raised $20 million in its series A round.
IDG Ventures (San Francisco) and IDG Capital Partners (China), two corporate venturing units of US publisher International Data Group, co-led the round.
Phil Sanderson, managing director of IDG Ventures, will join Funzio’s board.
He said: "The Funzio team is unique in that they have been in the social gaming space since its inception and created some of the biggest hits on Facebook and iPhone. "Now they’re transforming the industry by taking a cross-platform approach with AAA quality social games so people can play on Facebook and mobile — two of the biggest markets."
Ken Chiu, co-founder and chief executive of Funzio, said: "We feel very fortunate to have Phil Sanderson join our board because he shares our values and vision — creating awesome cross-platform games for Facebook, iOS and Android."
The company’s flagship game is Crime City (pictured) was launched in September and has more than 750,000 daily active users.
Rick Thompson, co-founder and former chairman of online games company Playdom that was acquired by Disney, has become chairman of Funzio and was an angel investor in the round.
