SoftBank Ventures Korea’s chief operating officer and partner, Daniel Kang, will join the board of Ini3 Digital, an online game service provider in Thailand. The news comes from a report by The Wall Street Journal. According to Adrian Stewart, Ini3’s vice president of business development, the investment will be allocated to the company’s regional expansion.
The company’s approach is to localise popular games from tried and tested Asia games markets, such as South Korea, China, and Japan. The company is looking to crack the Vietnam market, where it hopes to begin operations within two months, according to the WSJ report. Stewart reportedly said Ini3 is among Thailand’s three largest online games operators.
Ini3 has also launched its own game, Pangya, which became a highly popular game within the Thai gaming market. Other successful titles include Boomz, Club MStar and C9.
In other news, SoftBank Ventures Korea also recently invested in Turbo, a game studio based start-up based in Brooklyn, New York. The business plans to release its first game later this year, most likely first available on a mobile phone platform.
