Chad Gardner (pictured), formerly vice-president finance at Seattle-based Modumetal from 2016 until June this year, has joined San Francisco-based venture capital firm Energy Innovation Capital as a principal to team up with his former boss, George Coyle, from ConocoPhillips Technology Ventures Investments.
Energy Innovation Capital invests in venture and growth-stage companies with oil, gas and energy markets in mind. Its relationships with entrepreneurs and strategic partners to develop innovative technologies and business models have resulted in deep understanding in the oil and gas and advanced energy sectors.
Modumetal has developed a nanolaminated alloy based on the interaction of different materials at their interfaces and it is to replace traditional metals in various ways, such as structural, corrosion and high temperature performance of coatings. As it is versatile, it can be applied in different realms and sectors such as in construction, energy, aerospace, military and vehicles.
Prior to joining Modumetal, Gardner had assumed diverse roles at a number of companies – director at Houston-based ConocoPhillips, treasurer at Woodside Group, merger and acquisition analyst at Honeywell Building Solutions and business development manager at Coastal Power Company.
Gardner holds an MBA in finance from University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business and a bachelor of science degree in construction management from Brigham Young University.
