Josh Epstein is managing partner of UDC Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of Universal Display Corporation (UDC), a developer of organic light emitting diode (OLED) technologies and materials.
Regarding his work with the unit, Epstein said: “We launched in 2019 and are approaching half a dozen strategic investments. We also help drive corporate strategy and M&A in the parent company given the strategic nature of our dialogues.”
Epstein joined Universal Display in May 2019 to lead UDC Ventures, which was being launched that month. Prior to this, he was a technology investment banker for more than 20 years, heading global practices focused on electronics, digital media and emerging technologies.
He worked as a managing director at investment banking firm Cowen and more recently at investment bank Stifel Financial, where he focused on the semiconductor, capital equipment, optical, technology manufacturing and industrial technology sectors.
UDC Ventures targets investments ranging from seed to later growth-stage and focuses on areas such as OLED, organic electronics, displays, lighting and materials science technology. The unit is headquartered in New York City, with a satellite office in the Bay area.
UDC Ventures’ portfolio companies have the opportunity to partner with Universal Display to tap the firm’s expertise in intellectual property licensing, materials development and manufacturing while also accessing the corporate’s technology experts.
