Tony Sun is a director at GC Ventures America, a corporate venturing unit of Thailand-based petrochemical and material company PTT Global Chemicals.
The division is controlled by GC International, a Texas-headquartered subsidiary of PTT Global Chemicals, and operates alongside GC Ventures, another strategic investing arm controlled by GC International.
In his role, Sun is responsible for developing and executing GC’s corporate venture investment strategy in North America and managing the unit’s portfolio.
He also leads tech scouting and market intelligence activities to facilitate collaboration with emerging technologies and support new corporate initiatives.
GC Ventures America leverages GC’s resources and business footprint to help its portfolio companies scale and bring breakthrough innovations to market. The unit invests in areas of shared opportunity which include long-term joint development projects, pilots, purchase orders, channel partnerships, and market access.
Target sectors include advanced materials, 3D printing, new chemistry, biotech, agtech, clean technology, recycling, transportation, data analytics, advanced manufacturing, industrial robotics, blockchain and cybersecurity.
Prior to joining GC Ventures America, Sun was lead analyst at global research firm Lux Research, where he advised corporations, venture capital funds and government agencies on investments in material-based technologies. Sun holds a PhD in physics from Boston College.
