Ugo Catry is a US-based principal at TotalEnergies Ventures, a corporate venturing vehicle for France-headquartered oil and gas supplier TotalEnergies, where he supports the investments for its Americas Platform.
Girish Nadkarni, president of TotalEnergies Ventures, said: “Ugo Catry helped set the foundation for TotalEnergies Ventures in the Bay Area and helping create the bridge between our businesses in Paris and our investment activities in the US. Ugo specialises in the energy and mobility space and has been recently leading our effort in evaluating investments in carbon accounting.
“He is known for his strong investment discipline and a willingness to challenge traditional thinking. Ugo has had a number of successes recently including the sale of [transit data software developer] Swiftly, the acquisition and de-spacing of [energy storage system provider] Stem, which continues to be one of the high performing SPACs, and an upcoming SPAC acquisition of [car sharing service] Getaround.”
Catry had joined TotalEnergies in 2012 as a France-based new venture and financial analyst for the corporate’s solar division SunPower before joining TotalEnergies Ventures as an associate. The unit promoted him to his current role in 2016 which involved him moving to San Francisco, and he helped the investment process in more than 10 companies.
Regarding his achievements, Catry said: “As a VC, we are judged on our investments and exits and I am glad to see what Swiftly and Stem have become over the years.
“As a corporate VC, I am particularly proud to look back at how our electric vehicle (EV) or battery investments have deeply influenced the present and future of TotalEnergies which is about to become one the largest world battery manufacturers and the largest EV charging network operator in Europe.”
