GE gets Wise.io in acquisition deal

GE Digital, the software division of power and automation equipment producer General Electric, has acquired US-based machine learning technology developer Wise.io for an undisclosed amount, giving an exit to virtualisation software provider Citrix.

Founded in 2012, Wise.io developed software that used machine learning to automate and organise customer support. The company graduated from Citrix Accelerator in 2013 and raised $2.5m in a March 2014 round led by venture capital firm Voyager Capital.

The acquisition was announced by GE on Tuesday, alongside those of field service management software provider ServiceMax and Bit Stew Systems, which is developing machine learning-equipped technology that automates data modelling, mapping and ingestion.

The companies’ technology will be used to further develop Predix, a GE software offering built as “the operating system for the industrial internet”.
