Geopost, an express delivery service owned by the second largest postal group in Europe, La Poste, has invested in International logistics provider Worldnet Direct, the UK division of US shipping company Worldnet Shipping.
The UK-based Worldnet Direct, which is primarily a fashion shipping specialist, has developed a service for online retailers which will fully launch in 2013.
The Worldnet service will initially operate in the UK but will also be made available through GeoPost’s UK divisions DPD UK and Interlinks before being rolled out across Europe.
Worldnet has now completed over 3 million deliveries with major UK retailers, such as ASOS, which has partnered Wordnet since 2011 for its international deliveries.
Iain Johnson, chief operating officer, GeoPost International said: “GeoPost is excited to be able to support Worldnet…there is no question that e-commerce will continue to be of increasing importance…staying innovative in the retail space is key”.
Stuart Hill, managing director of Worldnet said: “We are still a very young company. Having GeoPost as an investor and benefiting from the DPD brand reputation is a significant step for us.”
Hilton Eachus, head of Delivery Solutions at ASOS said: “The difference with Worldnet is that they have developed a service which fits the needs of retailers… the service fits the retailer rather than the other way around… its been developed specifically for ecommerce which is key.”
