Gigster stages $20m series B

Gigster, a US-based software development platform backed by media company Bloomberg, obtained $20m in a series B round on Tuesday led by venture capital firm Redpoint Ventures.

Andreessen Horowitz, Y Combinator and Sound Ventures also took part in the round, as did angel investors Marc Benioff, Adam D’Angelo and Michael Jordan.

Founded in 2014, Gigster operates a platform that combines developers with automation tools to make software development efficient, reliable and scalable. The company has built a network of freelance developers, engineers, designers and product managers to offer its services.

The cash will go towards a business expansion to better serve enterprise and mid-market clients. Gigster also hopes to employ more than 100 additional staff over the next year, trebling its headcount.

Andreessen Horowitz led a $10m series A round in December 2015 with participation from Y Combinator Continuity Fund I, an investment unit of Y Combinator, SV Angel, Sound Ventures and Launch Fund.

In July 2015, the company secured $2.5m in a seed round from investors including Bloomberg Beta, the strategic investment arm of Bloomberg, Y Combinator, Greylock, Felicis Ventures, and angel investors Naval Ravikant, Stan Chudnovsky and Emmit Shear.
