Goldbelly, the US-based operator of a specialty food retail platform, pocketed $100m in a series C round backed by chipmaker Intel’s corporate venture capital unit Intel Capital yesterday.
Growth equity firm Spectrum Equity led the funding round.
Goldbelly runs a curated, online food store with products sourced from regional, small-batch producers, and well-known chefs such as restaurateur and television personality David Chang, across the US. The platform lists more than 10,000 items.
The company will use the cash to further scale its technology and operations as it continues to onboard additional chefs and restaurant partners. It will also build out its content, having already created a virtual cook-along series called Goldbelly Live.
Enlightened Hospitality Investments, the investment arm of restaurant operator Union Square Hospitality Group, led a $20m series B round in 2018. Intel Capital, 500 Startups and 645 Ventures also took part in that round.
Intel Capital co-led a $10m series A round in 2017 with Global Founders Club, when 500 Startups, 645 Ventures, Tuesday Capital (then called CrunchFund) and FundersClub also invested.
Intel Capital had already led a $3m seed round in 2013, with contributions from 500 Startups, Funders Club, Y Combinator, Ace & Company, Dave McClure and Tim Draper.
