Google backs former colleagues

Google Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of search engine group Google, has provided an undisclosed amount to some of its former employees who set up Dasient, a US-based provider of protection software for websites.

Last year, Dasient said it made record sales in the financial, media, and e-commerce sectors and more than doubled its customers and team size.

Karim Faris, partner at Google Ventures, said: "Malware is one of the fastest-growing threats on the internet. Dasient enables companies to proactively protect their websites by detecting and identifying a malware infection before it harms their business."

Venture capital firms Benhamou Global Ventures, Floodgate and Radar Partners had previously invested $4m in Dasient, which was founded by former Google employees Neil Daswani and Shariq Rizvi, as well as ex-consultant Ameet Ranadive.
