Internet technlogy provider Google has set up a new program dubbed Launchpad Accelerator that will fund mobile startups in Brazil, India and Indonesia, TechCrunch has reported.
The accelerator will invest up to $50,000 without taking an equity stake, and will offer mentorship, training and support.
Participating companies will travel to Google’s headquarters in the US to take part in a two-week bootcamp and gain access to both mentors from Google and other companies.
The startups will then return to their home countries where they will have access to local Google offices and receive help with marketing, user experience design and other parts of their business for a further five and a half months. Google is additionally offering credits to use its platforms.
Google hopes to select some 50 startups for the accelerator each year. It will also invite approximately 200 startups to participate in an initiative that does not involve the bootcamp, though the company may decide to advance some of them into the full program.
Launchpad Accelerator is expected to be expanded into additional countries in the future, though no further details have yet emerged.
