FameBit, a US-based marketplace connecting video creators with advertisers backed by internet company DeNA, was acquired by Google, a subsidiary of internet and technology group Alphabet, on Tuesday.
Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. FameBit has created a marketplace that allows individual creators to partner marketers through sponsorships or paid promotion of products and services.
The company’s technology will continue as a standalone platform for the time being and will also be integrated into Google’s video streaming platform YouTube to offer creators an additional way of monetising their content.
FameBit raised $1.4m in seed funding from DeNA, technology incubator Science, accelerator 500 Startups and assorted angel investors in June 2014.
Ariel Bardin, vice-president of product management at Google, said a blog post: “We believe that Google’s relationship with brands and YouTube’s partnerships with creators, combined with FameBit’s technology and expertise, will help increase the number of branded content opportunities available, bringing even more revenue into the online video community.”
