Google Ventures, the corporate venturing division of search company Google, has backed UpThere, a stealthy cloud startup from ex-Apple executive Bertrand Serlet, who was senior vice president of software engineering at Apple overseeing every release of OS X through to Snow Leopard.
The round, which was of an undisclosed size was also backed by venture firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and the partners of private equity firm Elevation Partners.
UpThere was also co-founded by Roger Bodamer and Alex Kushnir who both worked at 10gen, the company behind MongoDB, a US-based database provider backed by Intel Capital, Red Hat and In-Q-Tel.
