Google Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of the eponymous search engine provider, has agreed the merger of two of its portfolio companies.
Rocket Lawyer, a US-based legal lead generation start-up, bought LawPivot, a local legal question-and-answer platform, for an undisclosed amount.
In December 2011, LawPivot secured $1m in seed funding from venture firm Vaizra Investments as well as VC funds Venture 51, Quotidian Ventures, Atventure.us, MI Ventures, Sand Hill Angels, and assorted indiividual angel investors.
Previous investors include Google Ventures, which led LawPivot’s initial $600,000 seed round in October 2010.
In August 2011, Rocket Lawyer raised $18m in its series D round with the backing of Google Ventures, the US-based search engine’s corporate venturing unit.
Google Ventures was joined by Investor Growth Capital (IGC), the venture capital division of Sweden-based investment firm Investor AB, and venture capital firm August Capital, which led the round.
IGC, in turn led Rocket Lawyer’s $7m series C round in June 2010, while legal database Lexis Nexis, a division of publisher Reed Elsevier, funded the $2.1m series B round, in December 2008.
