Internet technology provider Google has acquired US-based podcasting platform startup Tiny Garage Labs for an undisclosed amount, allowing media company Bloomberg to exit, Business Insider reported yesterday.
Founded in 2016, Tiny Garage is the developer of 60dB, an app that curates and personalises short-form audio content, helping listeners to discover new stories based on their listening habits.
The app is available on iOS, Android and the web as well as through Alexa, Android Auto and CarPlay, but will shut down on November 10, at which point Tiny Garage co-founders John Ciancutti, Steve Henn and Steve McLendon will join Google, part of conglomerate Alphabet.
Tiny Garage had raised an undisclosed amount of seed funding from Khosla Ventures, Rivet Ventures and Bloomberg Beta, the venture capital firm sponsored by Bloomberg, as of October 2016.
Ciancutti, Henn and McLendon said in a blog post: “As we considered next steps for 60dB, we came to the conclusion that to accomplish our goals we would be better positioned if we joined someone with scale who shared our vision for what was possible with digital audio.”
