Google Ventures packs a $4m punch at cyber threats

ThreatStream, a US-based SaaS-based cybersecurity start-up with seed funding from Cloudera executives, has raised $4m in a series A funding round led by Google Ventures. Other investors that took part include Paladin Capital Group, Cloudera CEO Tom Reilly and Hugh Nijemanze, former CTO and founder of ArcSight.

ThreatStream claims to be the first ever crowdsourced cybersecurity intelligence solution that aggregates millions of threat indicators from around the Internet and integrates them directly to an organisation’s existing security infrastructure. It has caught the attention of some heavyweight investors with strategic interests including Fortune 500 Finance, healthcare and government customers.

By creating an open API, ThreatStream validates and scores any threat data into actionable intelligence that can be consumed by a enterprise risk and threat management platforms such as HP ArcSight, IBM Q1, Nitro Security SIEM and RSA Archer.

Cloudera, an enterprise analytic data management company, recently closed a $900m equity round of financing itself, with participation by top tier institutional and strategic investors, inluding $740m from Intel Capital.

Founded in 2013, ThreatStream raised $300,000 in seed funding last year.
